1983:

On this day Korean Air Flight 007 was shot down by a Soviet jet fighter when the commercial aircraft entered Soviet airspace. All 269 on board died, including US Congress-critter Lawrence McDonald. As usual, reports of how the event occurred varied widely. Apocalyptic global thermo-nuclear war was narrowly averted. – (Wiki / History Commons / History.com / BBC / Rense / Asiang)

I am curious. Where did you pick up using the term “Congress-critter”? I started using it from reading LJ posts by lassiter. I have not noticed others using the term, other than by him and me.

I got it from Robert Anton Wilson. He uses the term several times in Everything is Under Control and T.S.O.G.: The Thing That Ate the Constitution. It can be a challenge to avoid anthropocentrism, but I try nevertheless. :)
